Midtown Madness is the first racing game in the series of midtown madness games that was released in 1999 for Windows (PC) as free download. Midtown madness is multiplayer racing video game developed by Angel Studios and published by Microsoft Game studios. The game supports both single and multiplayer gameplay features just like Need for Speed. Midtown Madness 3 and Midtown Madness 2 are the most recent versions in this series that are rich with different newly added upgrades. The game introduces the street racing right after the Need for Speed Special Edition 1997. This game offers multiple gameplay modes with different objectives and requirements.

The story of the game was set back in the city of Chicago where the user player will start racing in open world environment. Many other racing games doesn't allows the player to keep the vehicle out of road but this game features to drive anywhere in the whole city without any restrictions. Midtown madness provides freedom of driving feature that is not available in any other racing games like NFS, Moto racer, MotoGP 14, Euro Truck, Road Rash, Midnight Club and more. The tracks are clean with 3D background objects, realistic sound effects and high definition graphics results are the success of this game.

Midtown madness gameplay is simple and classic than other games because an open world map is waiting for the player just like Crazy Taxi game. However the gameplay has 4 different modes with different requirements. These 4 modes are Blitz, Cruise, Checkpoint and Circuit as well. Every mode has its own gameplay terms and condition that must be achieve to unlock the advance features of game.

The player can choose any vehicle out of ten but the last five are locked. They require some specific objectives and requirements to be achieved to unlock advance vehicles and performance upgrades. The advance features of this game are customizing weather conditions, number of laps, frequency of public transport, number of police cars, number of pedestrians on road and race duration as well.
